About the project
The World Health Organization (WHO) office refurbishment formed part of a wider redevelopment programme at the University of Salford. As the building remained in full academic use, the primary challenge was minimising disruption. A phased delivery strategy was developed to maintain operational continuity while progressing construction efficiently.
To maximise usable space, the adjacent concourse and former cellular office zone were removed, enabling full width of the building to be used. This intervention improved spatial efficiency and delivered natural light at both elevations, enhancing workspace quality and staff wellbeing.
A new multi‑purpose zone was introduced, functioning as a visitor waiting area, an informal collaboration space and a social breakout point. The layout combines enclosed offices with open‑plan desks to balance confidentiality, team interaction and functional adaptability. Secure lockers were installed to support working with sensitive information.
A centrally located refreshment station was added to improve everyday convenience for staff, reduce unnecessary movement across the office, promote collaboration and support an efficient workflow.
