The University of Lancashire commissioned a new veterinary school at its Preston campus as part of its strategic expansion into clinical sciences. The goal was to create a technologically advanced, highly specialised environment for veterinary education, marking the university’s first purpose-built facility in this field.

About the project
The new-build veterinary school was designed to deliver cutting-edge learning environments that prioritise sustainability and accessibility.
Central to the project was the seamless integration of advanced technologies, such as Anatomage virtual dissection tables and fully simulated clinical settings to replicate real-world veterinary practice and help produce industry-ready graduates.
Meeting the complex demands of veterinary education required adherence to stringent building safety regulations, while sustainability was also a major driver of the design approach. The use of materials like delta beams, electric arc furnace steel segments and low carbon concrete foundations significantly reduced the embodied carbon impact of the project.
Integrating water-smart features, green roofs and sustainable reuse of materials also contributed towards the university’s net zero and biodiversity goals.
