About the project
Supported by the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme, the project enabled St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Birstall, West Yorkshire, to be completely rebuilt.
The existing structure was replaced with a purpose-built two-storey school designed to accommodate 210 pupils aged 3-11, together with 26 nursery places.
As a live school environment, one of the key challenges was maintaining uninterrupted education throughout construction. This was achieved through strategic phasing, stakeholder collaboration, and Wilson Mason’s experience delivering educational schemes in occupied settings.
Sustainability was a central consideration from the outset. The new school features a green roof, air source heat pumps, solar panels, and flood attenuation tanks, all contributing to a significant uplift in energy efficiency and environmental performance.
