About the project
The project was developed to extend the space available for the University of Manchester Division of Dentistry. Driven in part by the closure of third-party facilities used for outreach training.
The Faculty considered a range of locations for this purpose and settled on the use of the vacant 5th floor of the University of Manchester’s Carys Bannister Building, located within the Biomedical zone of the university.
The refurbishment required the provision of 16 chair spaces with associated cabinetry. The support spaces included reception and waiting area, decontamination room, phantom head room, X-ray facility, meeting room, and locker room. The new clinic is also served by environmental cooling to meet operational requirements for patient comfort.
Being located within an operational building, our response to the brief considered how disruption to day-to-day campus activity would be minimised, how new technology would be seamlessly integrated and how the project would be delivered within time and budget constraints.
The project has delivered an enhanced learning environment for dentistry students, helping the university enhance its reputation as a leading dental school.
