About the project

Our decades long collaboration with Booths has been built on trust, technical excellence, and a shared ambition to deliver exceptional retail environments across the North West. Each scheme has been delivered to rigorous technical standards, resolving complex constraints through strategic design, precise coordination and clear project leadership.

The design of the Booths Barrowford store integrates recycled local stone and a roof profile evocative of the region’s historic mills. Constraints posed by a compact site and a heavily trafficked adjacent road demanded a refined, strategic masterplan. We introduced a multi‑level parking solution seamlessly positioned alongside the store, significantly enhancing customer accessibility without compromising the architectural heritage integrity of the site.

Recognising the site’s proximity to a conservation area, we pro-actively engaged with local stakeholders through public exhibitions and digital walkthroughs. This approach provided transparency, secured community input and contributed positively to planning outcomes.

Across the Booths estate, we have prioritised social design value, sustainable performance and operational efficiency. At Hesketh Bank, waste heat from refrigeration compressors were redirected to provide underfloor heating in key areas of the building. Inspired by local glasshouse architecture, the store was re‑envisioned to be naturally ventilated using sustainable materials including timber and local stone to create a striking and environmentally responsible profile.

At Scotforth, the steep topography and urban context constrained design options. By embedding the main store body into the hillside, we designed a naturally insulated, energy efficient solution with a green roof, securing planning permission at a key gateway site leading to the city centre.
