This education sector project involved the redevelopment of a first-floor student concourse during term time to create a new student hub serving the University of Salford’s Faculty of Health and Social Care.

About the project
Existing office accommodation adjoining the concourse was removed to enable the full width of the building to be utilised effectively, and to enhance the provision of natural light to both elevations.
The design approach involved the separation of the space in to a number of differing seating functions to enable the students flexible use of the hub for informal meetings, dining, and as a work base.
Wireless internet provision was included and power supply plug-in points provided for laptop use. Fixed screens were installed to subdivide the space and support plasma screen displays. A video wall was also installed on the end wall of the hub to display faculty information.
